Pevtsov (apevtsov@nso.edu). The azimuth ambiguity resolution was done in the “automatic” regime, so some disambiguation could not be optimal. At least one magnetogram in this data set has incorrect magnetic polarities. “JZ” in the directory names indicates that the data were disambiguated, and the vertical component of electric current density was computed. Magnetograms with the same NOAA active region number are stored in the same directory (JZ_NOAA). With respect to NOAA AR No., in a few cases, FITS headers may be incorrect as some regions have been misidentified by the observer. The data set should include all HSP observations taken before 25 Sep 2000 although a few magnetograms might still be missing.

JZ_NOAA – magnetograms for numbered active regions (NOAA active region number)
JZ_NONE – magnetic flux that is associated with a non-numbered region
JZ_EFR – emerging flux
JZ_ELIM – E-limb
JZ_WLIM – West limb
JZ_NPOL – N-pole
JZ_SPOL – S-pole
JZ_FILA – filament

Files in each folder are in the Flexible Image Transport System (FITS) format with the following filenames: the first letter is “J” indicating that the azimuths were disambiguated, and electric currents were computed. The next 6 digits correspond to Year, Month, and Day. The last four digits correspond to UT hour and minutes, when the observations were taken.

HSP regular observations began around the launch of Yohkoh satellite. This period has two major gaps: June 6, 1996 – July 10, 1997 – due to HSP instrumental problems, Dec. 29, 1999 – March 6, 2000 – due to lack of observers.

(Note from 02/28/2001, AAP)

(Note from 5 January 2018, AAP):
This data corresponds to one of three copies of DVDs created by A.A. Pevtsov at the end of 2000. In December 2017, copying DVD to disk failed for one fits file.
