Abstract: This is a scanned version of R. Howard, V. Bumba, S.F. Smith: 1967, “Atlas of Solar Magnetic Fields: August 1959-June 1966”, Pub. 626, Carnegie Institute of Washington, Washington, D.C. by Dr. Ilpo Virtanen. The dataset includes synoptic maps of the magnetic fields and H-alpha drawings for Carrington Rotations 1417-1509 as images in png format. The rotation number is included in the filename. Folder “H-alpha” contains the synoptic maps of H-alpha drawings, and folder “Magnetograms” contains maps of magnetic field.

Additional description: synoptic maps based on the Fraunhofer Institute daily maps show chromospheric filaments as solid black features. Plages are drawn based on Ca K3 spectroheliograms in 3 different classes: “shredded and weak” – hatched, “continuous” – bordered (contour), and “continuous and bright” – bordered and hatched. Crosses mark centers of sunspot groups with letters with numbers showing the sunspot group class (according to the Zurich scale: A, B, J, C, D, G, H, E and F) and the number of spots in the group.
