Abstract:
The Global Oscillation Network Group (GONG) is a worldwide network of six identical telescopes, designed to have 24/7 observations of the Sun. Starting late 2010, GONG began taking full-disk observations of the Sun in the core of H-alpha spectral line. The H-alpha instrument instrument has 70 mm effective aperture, and it uses the Daystar Quantum PE~0.4 Angstrom mica etalon filter placed in a telecentric beam. The diffraction-limited spatial resolution of the final image is a little over 2″. It is sampled by camera at about 1″ per pixel. At each site, the observations are taken at 60 second cadence, but because of an (intentionally) scheduled 20 second offset in time acquisition between the neighboring sites, an overall network cadence of up to 20 seconds can be achieved.
